Fulcrum Completes Acquisition of Forgentum Expanding DoD Healthcare Business into Electronic Health Records
CENTREVILLE, VA, February 27, 2014—Fulcrum IT Services, LLC today announced that it has acquired Forgentum, Inc., a provider of application development, integrated systems engineering, managed services and training related to clinical technology solutions and the DoD healthcare community. The acquisition expands Fulcrum’s growth in the military health market and reinforces its commitment to providing pivotal performance to its clients.
Forgentum complements and expands Fulcrum’s healthcare services including direct support to the Department of Defense (DoD) Military Health Systems (MHS) Healthcare Artifact and Image Management Solution (HAIMS) as well as the Defense Health Clinical System (DHCS) that provides information management and solutions that capture, manage and share healthcare data for the military’s worldwide Electronic Health Record (EHR). The acquisition adds to Fulcrum’s current portfolio of key clients including the TRICARE Management Activity (TMA), EHR Core (formerly DHIMS), and the Enterprise Infrastructure (formerly MCiS). Forgentum adds direct experience with the majority of DoD healthcare solutions including AHLTA, CHCS, and HAIMS as well as current work supporting interfaces to the VA’s Veterans Health Information Systems and Technology Architecture (VistA).
The acquisition enables Fulcrum to deliver pivotal technology support through Forgentum’s prime position on the NIH CIO-SP 3 contract, a Government-Wide Acquisition Contract (GWAC) vehicle in support of the Federal Enterprise Architecture, the Department of Defense Enterprise Architecture and the Federal Health Architecture, with a $20 billion ceiling and performance period through 2022.
Fulcrum CEO Jeff Handy said, “This acquisition solidifies Fulcrum’s offerings in healthcare and includes invaluable talent and historic knowledge working in the military healthcare community”. Forgentum’s experience is primarily medical applications technology, with 95% of all its revenue coming from MHS development, integration, and operational support contracts. When it comes to military medical experience there are few businesses that can match Forgentum’s experience. More than fifty percent of the staff has ten plus years supporting DoD medical programs.
Forgentum CEO and co-Founder Lyn Hurd added, “Fulcrum’s culture and history of performance in DoD application development, integration and operational support are well known. Joining Fulcrum will open additional opportunities for our employees and will allow Forgentum to expand our solutions and support to current and new clients moving forward”.

Forgentum was founded in 2007 by individuals that spent most of their professional careers in and around Military Health. The company was started to afford those individuals the access and ability to more directly impact the quality of software and services provided to the DoD Healthcare Community. The intention of these efforts was to minimize the time doctors and providers are impeded by their software or devices, and maximize their interactions with patients. This, by extension, is meant to in a modest way support the war fighters and their dependents.
